Pure and simple - You can’t get this close without spending the $5.00 to take the 17 mile tour around the monument. Just don’t take a Mustang or a Camaro or you will lose your muffler at best.
The view from The View Hotel is fantastic with a brilliant sun rise. However, on the down side, they had no soap for two weeks, WIFI in the lobby only, very poor food, and no alcohol.

Below is a very fast trip around the entire Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park, Utah in a Jeep JK. The video has no sound as the speed is increased by 6x. The video starts at 8:30 am when the park opens so traffic is virtually non existent. The sun can be a problem at that hour but traffic is horrible anytime after 10:00am
